Avalue Technology Inc. develops and produces uninterruptible power supplies based on supercap modules. These allow 500,000 - 1,000,000 charge & discharge cycles. The modules are available in 4x / 6x / 8x 400F or 4x / 5x 350F ATX versions. The maximum output power is 80 watts. All products work in the wide temperature range and have over temperature protection. Depending on the version, the input voltage ranges from 12 to 24 VDC or 9 to 24 VDC.

The use of a charge management system as with battery-based variants is technology based not necessary. This makes Uninterruptible Power Supplies based on Supercap modules low maintenance, space saving and hardly prone to ambient temperatures. The supercapacitors used are a further development of double-layer capacitors. These compensate for short-term voltage fluctuations or power failures with the help of their very short charge and discharge cycles and ensure a safe shutdown for longer downtimes. An adjustable timer decides when to send the signal via USB to shut down the system. The parameter is freely selectable between 1-60 seconds. How long power failures can be safely bridged depends on the current consumption of the respective system and the configuration of the super-cap module.

Areas of application include compact embedded systems, industrial computers, on-board computers, PoS terminals and automation systems where failure of the main power supply is considered critical if maintenance is difficult or if very fast charge and discharge cycles are required.
